The crowded lecture hall
In the afternoon of September 15, QIU Chun, associate professor of Wilfrid Laurier University, gave a lecture in Room 108 of Wenjin Building. More than 100 MB students and alumni attended the lecture.
Mr. QIU received his Ph. D. in marketing from Alberta School of Business, University of Alberta. He also holds a MA in Economics from Simon Fraser University. At present, he works as an associate professor of marketing at Lazaridis School of Business and Economics, Wilfrid Laurier University. His prior working experience includes marketing and sales in West Africa and copyright administration. His teaching interests include retail management, internet marketing, marketing analytics and quantitative methods. His works have been published on journals like Journal of Retailing,Marketing Letters and European Journal of Marketing.
The topic of his lecture was “Think as a marketer”. Based on marketing theories and practices, the lecture was full of cases that were interesting and inspiring. The audience were impressed by these story-like cases.
According to Mr. QIU, the core of marketing lies in communication, target audience and realizing the purpose; the object of marketing thinking is to change fixed thinking pattern and use marketing tools to analyze problems, express ideas and realize communication, so as to make the audience accept your opinion.

Challenges to product innovation
After the lecture, SUN Hongqing, associate professor of School of Business Administration, ZUEL, made a summary. He emphasized that marketing thinking would inspire innovation. Professor WEN Hao also made a summary: marketing cases are full of traps; Mr. QIU’s lecture is intriguing---it leads us to think about how to avoid the marketing traps; theories are powerful---learning theoretical knowledge is the foundation of changing your thinking pattern.
