1.        Background and Significance
Germany is the fourth largest economy, the second largest exporter and third largest importer of goods in the world. During the last few decades, Germany’s foreign trade is in absolute leading position in the world. And it is honored as the “champion of exporting”. In the 2011-2012 Global Competitiveness Report, Germany is ranked in the 6th place. Influenced by America’s subprime mortgage crisis of 2008, the responsibility of economic recovery is mainly burdened by such major economies as America, China and EU. And within the EU, Germany is one of the strongest pillars. We think that Germany will become stronger due to its powerful modern manufacturing system. Together with the related service system (such as logistics, supply chain and design consulting), Germany’s manufacturing industry which is featured by excellent technology, advanced management, solid foundation and distinctive characteristics will be the key stand of economic recovery of Europe, even the world. The most influential auto makers, such as Mercedes-Bens, BMW and Volkswagen, are located in Germany. And Germany is also ranked in the leading place in the field of medical care and technology innovation. After the financial crisis of 2008, Germany, together with its manufacturing industry and logistics industry, has become an example for the world to follow. Under this background, MBA School and University of Duisburg-Essen have agreed to carry out this short-term study tour.
