Deng Xiaoping and the Development of ZUEL

Reviewing the history of ZUEL, you may find that Deng Xiaoping had played an important historical role in the establishment and development of the university. Like other universities, ZUEL had got guidance and support from Mr. Deng. Besides, under certain circumstances, we got more attention from him.
Generally speaking, Deng Xiaoping contributed a lot to various historical periods of ZUEL.
(1) During the establishment period (1940s), Deng Xiaoping was one of the major decision makers and founders of Zhongyuan University, the predecessor of ZUEL.
(2) During the reviving period (1970s), Deng Xiaoping’s ideas on ideological line and great focus on education encouraged the reviving of ZUEL.
During the period of further development (1980s), Deng Xiaoping’s ideas on education (especially the idea of gearing education to modernization, the world and the future, and the idea of cultivating students with lofty ideals, integrity, knowledge, and a strong sense of discipline) became guidance for our development; what’s more, he inscribed the name of ZUEL, giving us more confidence and courage.
