ON November 19th, CAO Xiangdong, CEO of WUHAN HONGTUO Co,ltd. Gave a Lecture on innovative entrepreneurship in WENHUI Building of MBA School.
He said:”Starting a business is very difficult”. But in some aspects, starting business in China and America is different:in America, staring a business emphasizes innovation, because the competence of a company lies in creativity; while in China, the environment is different, the innovative entrepreneurship is not suitable in China, since it doesnt have market.
CAO has returned to China for four years, he is responsible for the top national scientific research projects---the 973 program. He has seen the operation system of 973 program, and the program fell him since it is much different than he expected. The research system, the system of research management and the whole environment has deprive the creativity of the entrepreneurs. The research mode will not reach the advanced world standard.
CAO introduced that in the silicon valley, many entrepreneurs of many famous companies come from the garages. Why it could happen in America not in China, since in America, it provides an environment for creativity, including investment, the protection of intellectual property rights, and core technology. “Now, the environment in China is not suitable for the innovative entrepreneurship.” He hopes that every engineer will hold a dream that one day; I will have my own company. He thought, only the staff have this kind of dream that a better innovative environment will exist.
CAO Xiangdong was born in Huangshi, Hubei province. He stayed in US for 20 years. He once worked as senior managers in Siemens and Nortel with profound managerial experience in high-tech technological research. At the meantime, he found or help to found 4 technological company, and he has rich and systematic managerial experience from doing researches to making production.
In 1998, he found QTERA company, and worked as chief scientist and also was responsible for designing the first WDM optical super-long transmission system in the world. In less than one year, his company had been bought by Nortel with 3.25 billion dollars, and core technology had been put into market. In 2001, he worked in T-NETWORKS as chief system designer. In 2006, he returned to China to set up WUHAN HONGTUO Co,ltd and WUHAN I-LINK company. He now is working as the CEO of the two companies and the guest professor of HUST.
